the past 48 hours

Being a pilot's wife, I have had to choose early on not to fear the risks of my husband's occupation. Instead I choose to trust God's perfect plan as he flies and know that Aaron is a wise and safe pilot. However, airplanes are man made and often times things to wrong that are unexplainable...or humans make mistakes that will sometimes never be known.

This week we saw another unexplainable situation happen...it's been on the news and most have heard already, but a plane went down on Wednesday and still hasn't been found. Two instructor pilots from Aaron's squadron lost contact with the base tower and the search continues as to where they are...somewhere in the Gulf.

This is the second time in two years an aircraft from Aaron's squadron has gone down...and it never gets easier. Sure, it's an unfortunate and normal part of life that accidents happen, but it's hard to put into words how one watches this community of guys who trust each other, have lots of experience, work hard, fly every day, are good pilots, and still things happen...and then two go missing.

Being on this side of now having a child, it also puts things into a different light. Both of these men have children...both have families. Both just went to work to do a routine qualification and haven't come back yet. Speechless.

But in the midst of all the unknowns, God is good and knows exactly where these men are...knows the families...knows the unknowns...and is still sovereign over it all. It's easy to wonder why it happens to them and why my family was spared the tragedy...

The search is still on even though it's been 2 days...hopefully a piece of the puzzle will show up to give some answers to the many thousands of people, specifically the families, waiting for an answer. There was also another crash with two aircraft in San Diego yesterday and they are searching for 9 survivors. Pray with us for these families, for the pilots and crew, and for the squadrons as they process through all this.

Thank you for this post Hollie. You put into words beautifully the faith that I cling to as well.
Lots of love. Rachelle
