Being a military family that moves frequently and usually lives far from family, we were incredibly thankful our parents were able to be here for the birth of Sam...then again, with a 70+ hour labor almost anyone could have made it here to Corpus in time for his birth had they been notified at the beginning. Smile. But seriously, I have seen my share of military wives buck up and go through pregnancies, births, and the first years without their other half to experience and help with a new child. They also do it without the presence or help from grandparents. Having just come from Guam, I witnessed MANY wives that do this. And for the dad, I know it's not easy leaving knowing their wife will be extremely exhausted and alone doing this job. It's not easy managing a newborn (especially your first) with two people, so my hat goes off to all the single parents, be it from military or other circumstances, that endure these first weeks and months. If you know a military family who is about to go through this type of transition, please have a heart and offer some type of help. God will reward your compassion...
Okay, back to the grandparents.
Mimee and Papa Voth were here for a few days during the first week and then this past weekend Mimmi and Daddi Schaub were able to come and hang out (Thanks, Ron, for also redoing our bathroom while you were here!). It was great to have them all here to help cook, clean, hold Sam, change diapers, and ooh and ahh over the cutie patootie. We love you all and hope we have many many many more visits and milestones to celebrate with you. Having you within driving distance is one of the best parts about moving to South Texas.
For those of you who don't know our parents, Sam's middle name, Ronald, is the name of both of his grandpas (it also made the choice easy!). With great examples of men who love God and their families, we hope Sam will grow to be a man like his Papa and Daddi (and his incredible daddy).

He is perfection, y'all! I can't wait to meet him in real life one day. Hugs. Hope all is well.
