it's a sad situation when a school offers you a job after an interview where you ask them all the questions, they ask nothing about you or your experience, and they can only pay you about $8/hour for a 10 month position teaching 7 grades 5 different curricula. not that i take a job according to pay, but who would entrust someone who has no "school" teaching experience 5 different curricula and say "have fun"? there are just some really sad situations in the educational system here in Guam.

on the other hand, i did go to training and have a part time position (for only a month or so for now...) at an non-profit mediation organiziation called Inafa Maolek being a case manager (coordinates mediators to meet with clients).
"Inafa’ Maolek has been the lone voice on Guam for Restorative Justice for over fifteen years. Inafa’ Maolek does RJ interventions (Victim Offender Dialogue, RJ Group Conferencing) and also trains educators in RJ through 2 college accredited RJ courses. Under IM mentoring support, one public high school has begun doing RJ group conferences on its own (in-house)."
i was very impressed with IM at the meeting last week meeting with the other volunteer mediators and how they truly have a heart to see people resolve conflict outside of court. it's good to know there are good organizations out there teaching people how to communicate.

we lost power today for about 6 hours so we got to fire up our generator!!! we have found this is a normal occurance here on Guam on the base. good to know our "investment" works well. karm and friesen, that was for you.

here on Guam you can be out driving and see several signs that say "tuba for sale." it took us a while to realize that people were not big into marching bands but that it's a local fruit...
