A time near the Christmas holiday in which the residents of Rota Dr extravagantly decorate the outside of their concrete home/bunker (think Grizwald's).
This event truly epitomizes the American Dream: the house with the most decorations (gaudy is good, tacky is extremely good) wins...except there is no prize.
Once all homes are properly decorated, the sidewalks have been water blasted, and the lawn is manicured....the street is shutdown and the entire base walks up and down your street to admire (or disapprove) of your decorations. Cookies and candy canes are handed out by residents, along with a healthy dose of holiday cheer.
Some homes use this as an opportunity to 'show off' their squadron...cops have a cop car (and hand out dough-nuts), maintenance guys have big cranes, munitions people have bombs in their yard (forgot to take a picture, sorry). Think 'Peace on Earth and Goodwill towards men' (the old fashioned way).
Our decoration is seen below. It was put up the day before, taken down the day after, and is now stored under our bed. The process will be repeated in about 12 months....I heart Rota Walk.
